Dear Friends,

I share these thoughts from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Information about the struggle in Gaza is limited, but enough to know that this is a trying time for the people of Israel as they struggle for their very existence as a nation. While we all feel for the Palestinian people who are trapped In Gaza, I can only hope that at least we Jews appreciate Israel’s effort to avoid attacking “civilians.” But it is true, even as so many people of our world have little understanding of the Jewish heart and conscience, even in war.

How we all wish that we could call out to the pawns of Hamas” to choose life. Say to us we will live in peace with you.

Yes, Israel has every right to defend its people. Prior to “settlements” and “occupied territories”, the Palestinians were nurtured on hate for Israel, and hate for the Jewish people. I need to believe that one day we human beings of different races and religions will come to realize that there is much that we share. We will yet reject those leaders who pursue their own gain. We will all realize that we are given the gift of life, and the compelling choice to “choose life”.

                 Shabbat Shalom
