Nicaragua Service Learning Trip
Nicaragua February 18-25, 2017
About the Nicaragua Service Learning Experience
ToaSTY travels to Nicaragua (the 2nd poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere) to build homes in rural communities in desperate need of dignified housing. We are led by Bridges to Community, which works with local communities to find viable, cooperative projects. On 15 trips, over the past 12 years, over 400 congregants have helped to build 82 homes in the small farming communities of Las Conchitas, Ticuantepe, Jinotega, and Nindiri. On our trips, we live amongst the materially poor in their communities. Together we share our food, our thoughts, our laughter, and our dreams. We leave Nicaragua changed forever. We learn about our neighbors, our Judaism, the world, and ourselves. It is the true essence of Tikkun Olam. The trip occurs during the February school break.
